Combat the winter myths and step outside to enjoy everything Edmonton has to offer. Read on to find out some of my favourite winter activities!

Tobogganing

There are many great snow-covered hills right around the UAlberta campus, like Emily Murphy hill. This makes for a great place to go tobogganing! Soaring down a snowy hill on a sled is just one way to get outside and enjoy the fresh air while having a ton of fun with your friends!

Skating

Skating is a really popular winter activity in Edmonton. Outdoor skating rinks are made by the city and are a great place to enjoy the outdoors. There are three outdoor rinks very close to UAlberta that give a variety of scenery. Hawrelak Park offers a ton of trees in a quieter setting. City Hall Rink is located right in the middle of the Edmonton Downtown district. And the legislature rink is tucked behind the Alberta Legislature building, complete with trees, lights, and a great view of the building. there are also indoor skating rinks located all around Edmonton. Check out Edmonton on Ice!

Skiing/Snowboarding

Have you ever wanted to try skiing or snowboarding? There are several ski hills right in Edmonton that are a great place to learn! Ski/Snowboard passes and rentals on Friday nights at Snow Valley are a discounted rate, so it is a fun and affordable activity to try when you get to Edmonton!

Walk Campus or Edmonton’s River Valley

There are plenty of places for you to take a walk and enjoy the fresh winter air. Campus is always a great place to take a quick walk with friends. There is also the Edmonton River Valley, which is just as breathtaking in winter as it is in summer. With 22 parks and over 150 km of trails, the River Valley is bound to keep you busy! The River Valley is right beside campus and the trails are very easily accessible. So head outside and enjoy the Edmonton sunshine while taking in the beautiful sites!

With ice carving exhibits, giant ice slides, live music, exhibits, and food/hot beverages, this is bound to be a memorable festival that you will definitely want to come back to.
