Top 5 Reasons to Study in Canada at UAlberta from a Students Perspective

Choosing a university is often a difficult and time-consuming process that requires taking into account a number of different factors from location to programs offered, to housing options and everything in between. When I choose the University of Alberta I thought of all these things and when I decided to take a chance and go with UAlberta I did so closing my eyes and crossing my fingers, hoping that I would have the experience I hoped for. I am happy to report that I made the right decision and have really enjoyed my time at the University of Alberta. Some of the highlights of my time here include going abroad and working for the Canadian consulate in Guadalajara, Mexico as well as studying abroad in Mexico, going to Business conferences all over Canada, and meeting some incredible class mates.  Below I have complied a list of just some of my favourite reasons to choose UAlberta:

UAlberta is one of the world’s top universities and one of Canada's top 5 Universities

The University of Albert is one of Canada's top 5 universities and continually ranks high on global university ranking lists. With much to boast about including its international focus, the fact that it is home to the Canadian National Institute of Nano-technology, hosts the second largest research library system in Canada, and is the number one Canadian institution in undergraduate teaching awards, it’s no wonder UAlberta makes it amongst the top of many international education ranking lists around the world.

UAlberta has a large International Student Community

Over 4,000 international students come from all over the world to study at the University of Alberta. On top of the emphasis UAlberta has on internationalism and promoting global citizenship through programs such as its annual UAlberta International Week, Edmonton itself, UAlberta’s home town, boasts a large international community represented every year at the annual Heritage Days Festival and many cultural festivals like it .

You can choose from Hundreds of different programs at UAlberta

The University of Alberta has 200 undergraduate programs and 170 different graduate programs ranging from a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology to a Masters in Fine Arts, and everything in between.

Living in on the UAlberta campus is the perfect starting point for exploring Canada.

UAlberta itself is located right on the banks of the beautiful Edmonton river valley, which is perfect for when you want to relax and surround yourself with nature, but sometimes a little trip outside of the city is a great way to explore Canada. The university is about a 4 hour drive from the world famous Canadian Rocky Mountains where you can enjoy hiking, canoeing, water rafting, and in the winter snowboarding, skiing, and so many other things including even dog sledding.

UAlberta is located in Edmonton, one of Canada’s most economically prosperous and beautiful cities.

Edmonton is affectionately nicknamed “Canada’s Festival City” as it annually hosts more than 30 different festivals throughout the year, from the Edmonton Folk Music Festival (rated one of the world’s best by fans and performers alike), and the International Fringe Festival, to the Heritage Festival and many more. There are also over 20 different theater companies in Edmonton and many acting co-ops as well as the beautiful Alberta Art Gallery and the world renowned Francis Winspear Center for Music. Edmonton also boasts more than 70 different golf courses and the Edmonton River Valley which is North America’s largest urban park. All this on top of its status of one of Canada’s most economically prosperous cities.
